For those of you that love the Aria SB series, you know that they have an unfortunate tendency to suffer from the dreaded "half dead" or even completely dead, pickups. Since the pickups are encased in epoxy, it was previously believed dead MB pickups would be best served as paper weights or door stops.
However, it turns out there IS hope in repairing your dead MB series pickups! Well, at least if you have some DIY aptitude and equipment. Here is Rob from Rob Mods. doing an amazing job of resurrecting a couple of MB-II pickups! Fantastic work, Rob!!

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this post and just for this amazing blog in general.
ReplyDeleteI just got my first Aria today; a 1981 SB-R60 (oak finish). It needs a little TLC, but nothing too outrageous, especially for the nice deal I got.
The only real problem with it is that when I switch to single-coil the E and A strings are noticeably quieter than the D and G strings. Could it be that the pickup is semi-half dead or maybe a problem with the switch?
I've been thinking about pulling a Cliff (my main man) anyway and installing a PJ Marx guitar humbucker in it. Even if it's only a simple problem like the switch, I could always reinstall the original MB-1 (or is it an MB-II?) and use the PJ Marx on one of my guitars.
I'll turn on notifications just in case you or someone else have any idea what the problem could be.
Thank you again for this amazing blog!
